Sadly it’s not the month of May. I mean yeah, obviously for temperature reasons, but also because I finally have something I could wear for MeMadeMay. I hope until May, I will have a few more self stitched pieces. So this is it, my very first self-drafted skirt pattern. You see, my body doesn’t play well with commercial sewing patterns. How do I put it, pattern designers tend to have a different shape in mind of how a woman’s proportions are supposed to be distributed. I used to get angry about this a lot. I got angry at my body, at the industry, at the designers. Finally I realized that that certainly was not going to help me. So I started to make my own patterns. Which was fun, but a lot of work. And I seemed to always have to start from nothing, which was not a lot of fun in the long run. So I decided I had to really learn how to do this from somebody who knows what they’re doing. (I wrote about what an amazing experience that was here.) And then for the first time in my sewing history, I just sewed up a pattern as is, without adding 4 inch seam allowances and playing contortionist in front of the mirror. So much fun!
